Year 11 Cultural Capital trip to Ashmolean Museum
On Friday 3 March, ten Year 11 students from the Oxford Academy took part in a cultural capital trip hosted by Oxford University. The trip involved meeting Oxford University students and visiting the Ashmolean Museum for the ‘Supersonic’ Live evening.
The visit started at Trinity college. The Year 11’s 'speed dated' university students to learn more about studying at Oxford University. This quick-fire question and answer session included everything from ‘what subjects can you study?’ to “what is the food like here?”. It was great to see our students so engaged in finding more out about university life and the vast array of subjects available to study. After some well needed pizza, it was onto the next event…
The ‘Supersonic’ Ashmolean Live event was a musical experience that ranged from live performers, to musical therapy, to the use of abstract objects to create music and even to building our own instruments. There was even a chance to become part of the famous J M W Turner painting of Oxford.
The students enjoyed all of the workshops they joined and were enthralled by the magnificent museum exhibitions.
Thank you to the museum and Oxford University for organising the trip. The students had a fantastic experience and learnt lots about university. They have come back to school with new enthusiasm and motivation to achieve in their GCSEs, and they haven’t stopped talking about the trip!
