Abigail's Story

Building on academic success for Abigail

Abigail has always done well academically. She’s a confident, able student and has been with us at The Oxford Academy since year 7. After getting As and Bs in her GCSEs, she decided to stay with us to study her A-levels.

The teachers helped me get good grades for my GCSEs, so I thought it was the best place to get good grades at A-level. The teachers even give us their own time at weekends to help with coursework if we need it.

“I’m treated like an adult”

Abigail is studying maths, biology and psychology at A-level, plus an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The Oxford Academy is the only local school to offer EPQs – a qualification that carries weight in the selection process of the top universities.   As well as a large choice of subjects and qualifications, The Oxford Academy offers other activities, such as sports and the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, that sixth form students can get involved with. Students are given freedom to choose how they use the time they are not in timetabled lessons, time that Abigail often uses to take advantage of the facilities on-site.

The facilities here are open for use by the students. You just tell the teacher responsible and you can use the art facilities – or the sports centre. You are made to feel like an adult here – I love it.

Abigail and her parents are confident that she will do just as well in her A-levels as she did in her GCSEs and when the time comes for deciding on the next step, The Oxford Academy will provide the support Abigail needs at this important stage in her life.
