Why join the Oxford Academy?

The Oxford Academy is the perfect choice for ambitious teachers with bags of potential. If you share our passion for changing the life chances of young people through education, we’d like to meet you.

Our ethos

A strong Christian ethos and defined set of values underscore everything we do. Respect, compassion, forgiveness, self-discipline, justice, humility and hope are bound into the fabric of the Academy.

Within this framework we celebrate the diversity of our colleagues – believing that every one brings a unique and exciting perspective to our work.  We welcome colleagues with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds - their views and ideas make our Academy team ever stronger.

We are dedicated to 'raising the bar' for all our students – inspiring them to aim higher and achieve more - providing them will the tools to meet, and exceed, all expectations.  At the same time we nurture those students requiring additional help to ensure their basic skills meet national expectations.

The mission of the Academy is underscored by our motto: Learning and Leading for the World of Tomorrow. We will inspire learning, promote the achievement of all and develop leaders for the future.

Your development is important to us

We offer exciting development opportunities in a fast-paced, challenging work environment. You will be mentored, learning from the best, both within the academy and through our partnerships with other professional organisations.  We have a strong, focused leadership team which will support you not only day-to-day but also with your professional and personal growth.

We are a team

Teamwork is at the heart of what we do. You will be a valued member of more than one team: within your curriculum area; within tutor groups; as a member of a working party and from time to time also working on special projects.

We value every individual’s contributions and we work together to explore new avenues and find innovative solutions. We channel individuals’ expertise to help us reach our goals and we will encourage you to ‘think outside the box’ and lead on projects that are of particular interest to you or are in areas in which you have particular skills.

Induction

When you join the Academy you will learn about our structure, ethos, goals, ambitions and  performance measures.  You will understand your role, responsibilities and reporting lines and be introduced to our working practices, policies and expectations.

Once you are settled in your role, we will work together on a personal development plan appropriate to your career stage and experience. We expect all new colleagues to share our passion and energy for education and our performance management review process will identify personal development opportunities tailored to your specific goals.  We will set these goals with you and regularly assess performance, allowing you to broaden your range of skills and experience.

Support and mentoring

You will receive regular mentoring, coaching and feedback from senior colleagues and we aim to provide you with a variety of experiences relevant to your role to ensure you are developing your skills and that your role remains varied and interesting.  Our supportive team environment ensures that colleagues encourage and support each other, helping to build self-confidence and the pursuit of professional advancement.

Your mentor will be a senior manager or other partner within the Academy. They will support you through challenges that may arise and offer guidance on your career.

Professional development

Continuous professional development is actively encouraged. The Academy has developed a unique national facility - a first of its kind - the ‘Leadership Centre’ will be at the heart of the Academy and dedicated to ‘learning for life’. It will be used by staff, students, families and the community. The Leadership Centre will be twinned with international settings that will be the source of the Academy’s planned global education programmes - providing you with the tools you need to pursue career development.

You may also be eligible to study part-time towards our Masters programme, which is supported by Oxford Brookes University, one of our sponsors.

The Oxford Academy also provides opportunities to work on global and regional projects with national and international partners.
