October 2009

10 lucky children aged 11-12 have the chance of a lifetime to take part in a fantastic new CBBC series “The Singing Coach”.  The auditions for all the schools in Oxfordshire were held at Cheney School on Thursday 15 October.  The chosen 10 children will get the chance to spend three weeks travelling to exciting destinations around the country in a luxury, state of the art tour bus.  Along the way they will be taught how to sing and perform by Choirmaster, Gareth Malone (star of The Choir, BBC2).  At the end of the tour the newly formed group will perform in front of an audience of thousands at a top-secret event.

About 10 students from our Year 7 went to the audition.  Caitlin Dickerson 7SIS says, “I had to answer three questions along with another girl who I didn’t know, then I sang “A Moment Like This”!  I was nervous but I was told by the panel that I had a confident voice.  I am hoping to hear by this Friday whether I have got through or not”

Jordan Hayes 7SIS also went along to the audition “I was asked a few questions but wasn’t asked to sing.  I was paired up with another girl from Cherwell School. I am just waiting now to see whether I get through or not"

"I sang all on my own” says Shane O’Keefe 7BEL. "I sang "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough" and really enjoyed it".

Courtney Davidson and Anais Daniels 7BEL went in together and sang "A Moment Like This" and "You Always Find Your Way Back Home".  They said they were both a bit nervous but really enjoyed it.  Shannon Gardiner 7BEL sang "Titanic" but said "I was really nervous and not sure how I did it but loved every minute of it".

Good luck to The Oxford Academy students!
