February 2010
Year 12 Oxford Academy student Touria Koudoua has been selected to represent Oxfordshire at “The Football Association’s Young Leaders Camp” – an outstanding achievement as only the top 100 students across England are invited to participate in this prestigious national training event.
Touria won her place after being selected at the Regional leadership camp on Friday 5th February. The camp, which was hosted by The Oxford Academy, involved a structured day of workshops designed at improving the students’ leadership, communication and teamwork skills - and after showing determination, skill and a strong enthusiasm Touria was chosen as the best representative for the Oxfordshire County Football Association.
Gareth Jennings, Head of Sports & Community Development at The Oxford Academy said: “We are all so proud of Touria’s great achievement. This will be a fantastic opportunity for her, not only on an educational level but on a personal level as well. The Oxford Academy is delighted to be supporting the FA with their Young Leaders Programme and wish Touria the best of luck”
The camp, run by National FA staff, is due to take place during the week commencing 12th July 2010 and will involve a wide variety of learning opportunities around leadership skills, team building and football in general.
Touria may also be given the opportunity to participate in another extremely exciting event. After the camp, two to four young leaders will be given the opportunity to support the FA’s international placement programme in Africa, helping support and run festivals for children.
Owain Prosser, Football Development Officer at Oxfordshire FA, said: “The amount of Young Leaders attending really shows the strong youth workforce that is active in Oxfordshire. A big thank you is due to The Oxford Academy, who provided excellent facilities for the day, and whose staff and pupils have been closely involved with Oxfordshire FA’s Young Leaders Programme this year.”
The purpose of the FA Young Leadership Camp is to deliver an inspirational leadership opportunity for young people aged between 16 and 18. It also aims to train those young leaders in a number of areas of the game and then use them as long-term advocates and volunteers within FA Charter Standard Clubs.
