Oxford Academy

Callum's Story

Callum always been good at sports – at eight years old he was spotted by Oxford United and offered a place to train with them, but Callum said no

Here at The Oxford Academy, Callum’s talents got him into The Oxford Academy football squad. Thanks to the focus on sports, excellent facilities and the nurturing of the talent and enthusiasm of the students, the team was doing well. Exceptionally well. They reached the national finals twice in three years and won the county cup final 6-0. Not surprisingly, Oxford University scouts came to watch the team and Callum got a second chance when he was scouted again.. only this time, he said yes.

Callum is also pretty good in class, and he doesn’t get a free ride just because he’s playing for Oxford United. HIs football training is after school and matches are at the weekend, allowing him to follow the same school timetable as everyone else.

School is really good about keeping you on track. I thought that if you were doing really well, like I am, they’d leave you alone and focus on other students. But they push everyone to achieve more –  I’m really happy about that.

They want everyone to achieve the highest level they possibly can.

Naturally, Callum’s goal is to play football professionally

But he understands that what he learns off the pitch can be just as important as honing his skills on it. To complement his training, Callum’s chosen GCSE PE, psychology and triple science; science to help him understand fitness, muscle and skeletal structure, and the cardiovascular system, and psychology to help him understand the motivation behind winning on the football field.

I want to learn a lot and push for the best – psychology helps massively when it comes to playing football.

There’s something for everyone here…if you’re sporty, arty, good at maths, whatever your interest, there’s something here for you.

If you don’t come here, you’ll miss out.
